Compassionate Hearts
Sunshine offers a wide array of volunteer opportunities for people of all ages. For more information please contact Kym August 914-333-7089 or Jessica Hritz 914-333-7051. Volunteers make a difference in the following ways:
Therapeutic Play
Join in the fun of our Toddler and/or our Special Needs group, and participate in interactive games, music, dance, art, and play activities that are specially-designed to stimulate developmental and physical growth.
Cuddle Club
You can cuddle and hold our special babies, push strollers, and sing and read to our littlest residents.
Friendly Visitor
Make a difference and become a buddy to one of our children with scheduled one-to-one weekly visits.
Special Events
Accompany staff and children on trips, assist with celebrations or special events and/or monthly birthday parties.
Teen Program
We offer many opportunities for middle and high school students to satisfy their confirmation and mitzvah community service commitments. Teens work with children of all ages in a variety of activities under the direct supervision of the Therapeutic Activities department.
College Internships
Our internships focus on various academic disciplines as they relate to children’s health, medical care, teaching, social work, therapeutic services and marketing.
Volunteer applicant’s interests, skills and availability are matched to create the most exciting, enriching and rewarding volunteer experience. Volunteers are requested to provide a minimum of two to four hours per week for a period of no less than six months.
